The reality of brush clearing
Brush clearing and other excavation services may have been done by pioneers back in the day, but today there are experienced professionals to do the dirty work. Depending on the condition of the land and what needs to be done, large excavators may be needed to get the job done. At the very least, brush-clearing is a time-consuming job for a property owner to do. At the very worst, it is a highly-dangerous job which truly should be left to the professionals who have the equipment and the skill to do the job safely and properly.
What is involved with brush clearing?
Brush clearing is the removal of vegetation and other obstacles from a plot of land. If a property has not been cleared before, or has not been cleared in a very long time, it will often become overgrown with weeds, grasses, and even small trees. There may also be tree stumps, large rocks, and other large obstacles taking up space in the land, preventing easy access for the property owners.
Removing all this vegetation and other obstacles (called land clearing) can be a major project, often requiring specialized equipment. For this reason, most people hire professionals to do brush clearing for them.
Do it yourself or hire a professional?
Small tracts of land, say a thousand-square feet or so, can usually be cleared by hand by the property owner, depending upon the level of overgrowth. Large stumps obviously require large machinery. Larger jobs, say an entire piece of property, may require heavy equipment like a brush hog, a backhoe, a tractor, and/or a stump-grinder. These are large, specialized pieces of equipment, and they can be dangerous, requiring special training to operate them. Although many of them are available to rent through places like Home Depot, what is not available is proper training.
Our recommendation, always, is to leave the dangerous work to the pros. Yes, you will pay for that professional approach and those specialized skills, but you will not endanger yourself by doing so. It is better to live a healthy life than to risk serious injury.
Common approach to brush clearing
In most, if not all brush clearing situations, the larger vegetation/obstacles are cleared first. These would include tree stumps, trees, and heavy brush. After those things are removed, ground up, and hauled away, the smaller vegetation is taken care of. It can be carried away, turned into mulch, or burned in a controlled-burn. J & A handles these jobs with the utmost care, making sure that not only the land is cleared, but that the soil remains healthy and all other areas remain in good condition and undisturbed.
